Jab Apne Husn Ki Mehfil Sajane Ka Khayal Aaya (Qawwali Lyrics & Translation)

“Jab Apne Husn Ki Mehfil Sajane Ka Khayal Aaya” by Sabri Brothers

Background:

According to Sufi belief, Prophet Mohammed(pbuh) was created from the own light of God, much before the universe was created. So the prophet is considered above a normal human being and his beauty is also attributed to being created from the light of God. This poem(s) describes how and why prophet Mohammed(pbuh) was created and few lines also highlight his qualities.

Intro: The intro lines are referring to Prophet Mohammed(pbuh) showing him in the light of Allah(God)

Tu mila bhi hai, juda bhi hai, tera kya kehna
You are one among us (humans), yet you are different, oh! how to describe you!

Tu sanam bhi hai, khuda bhi hai, tera kya kehna
You are an idol(having physical appearance), you are also the God(formless), oh! how to describe you!

Marz hai, tu hi dawa bhi hai, tera kya kehna
You are the affliction, you are its medicine too, oh! how to describe you!

Tu shifa bhi hai, dua bhi hai, tera kya kehna
You are the cure and you are the blessing, oh! how to describe you!

Tere usshaq ko razi ba raza kehte hain
Your lovers are famous as the ready submitters of your will

Teri manzil mein fanaa ko bhi baqa kehte hain
Perishing in your cause is even called immortality
————————–

(These lines are referring to God)
Tu agar chaahe to qatre ko samandar karde
If you wish, you can turn a drop into an ocean

Chashma-e-chashm ke har ashq ko gauhar karde
You can turn every tear of the flooding eyes into a pearl

Tu gadaaon ko nawaze to shahenshah bane
When you reward the suppliants, they become emperors

Aur chaahe to yateemon ko payambar karde
And if you wish, you can make prophets out of the orphans
—————————-

Kaleemullah ko inni anaa se khelte dekha
Prophet Moses(pbuh) was seen with his humbleness

Zabeehullaah ko haq ki razaa se khelte dekha
Prophet Ismail(pbuh) was seen as the friend of truthfulness

Janab Ayyub ko sabr o raza se khelte dekha
Prophet Ayyub(pbuh) was seen enduring with patience and contentment

Haleema ko Mohammed Mustafa se khelte dekha
Haleema (foster mother of Mohammed (pbuh)) was seen nursing Mohammed Mustafa(pbuh)

Aur Mohammed Kamliwale ko khuda se khelte dekha
And prophet Mohammed(pbuh) was seen playing with God himself
—————-

Adam ko ye rutba, ye hadaya na mila
Even Adam(AS) was not given this importance or bestowed with this gift

Aisa kisi insaan ko paaya na mila
No human ever got this highest status

Allah re latafat-e-tan-e-paak-e-Rasool
Oh Allah! the prophet got this holy form of such a beauty and grace

Dhoonda kya aftab, saaya na mila
It was so bright as the sun that his shadow was not to be found

Jalwe tere us waqt bhi the, aur kam bhi nahi the
Your splendours were there even at that time, and not few

Ye baatein jab ki hain jab hazrat e adam bhi nahi the
This was at a time when even Adam (AS) was not there

Jab apne husn ki mehfil sajane ka khayal aaya
When a thought came to make a display of His beauty

Charagh-e-bazm-e-imkaan ke jalane ka khayal aaya
When a thought came to light the lamp of a gathering (created for that purpose)

Aur hareem-e-naaz ke parde uthane ka khayal aaya
When a thought came to unveil the sacred abode (Mecca)

Khuda ko noor jab apna dikhane ka khayal aaya
When a thought came to God to show His radiance

Rukh-e-Ahmed ko aayina banane ka khayal aaya
He thought of showing His reflection in the face of Prophet Mohammed(pbuh)
——————-

Inhi ke waaste paida kiya saare zamane ko
He created the whole universe only for his sake

Aur inhi par khatm farmaya zamane ke fasane ko
And with him ended the account of the universe

Saji bazm-e-jahan mehboob ki izzat badhane ko
So for glorifying the honor of His beloved(Prophet Mohammed (pbuh)), the world was adorned

To sar-e-mehshar do alam ko bula bheja dikhane ko
So after the end of the last day, He summoned both the worlds to show..

Unhe jab hashr mein dulha banane ka khayal aaya
..When He thought of making Mohammed the groom (central figure) on the day of resurrection
————-

The following lines refer to the time when the Prophet Mohammed(pbuh) was about to be born:

Baharon ko ataa ki wusatein, phoolon ko hairani
He bestowed longevity to the spring and marvel to the flowers
(I am a little doubtful about this line, it may as well have been bahron ko ataa ki wusatein, which means vastness to the oceans, but as the singers are mentioning bahaar instead of bahr, I take it as spring)

Zameen ko husn baksha, charkh ko bakshi darakhshani
Granted beauty to the earth, splendour to the sky

Qamar ko noor, taaron ko chamak, zarron ko taabani
(Granted) Light to the moon, twinkling to the stars and brightness to the little specks
———–

Ai baad-e-saba kya tune suna?
Oh! morning breeze, did you hear that?

Mehmaan woh aanewale hain
Our esteemed guest is about to come

Kaliyan na bijha tu raahon mein, ham aankhen bijhane wale hain
Don’t spread buds on the way, I am laying my eyes there for him
————————

Sajawat ko chaman ke dee gayi woh jalwa-saamani
The gardens were given splendid things to adorn

Chaman mein jab teri tashreef laane ka khayal aaya
When the thought came to grace the garden with your presence
——————-

Shab-e-asra kaha khaliq ne ho jo mustafa maango
On the night of Meraj, God said to Mohammed Mustafa(pbuh) “Ask for anything you want”

Tumhare waaste hai do jahan ai mustafa maango
“Both the worlds are for you, oh Mustafa, mention what you want”

Ataa kardoon agar kuch aur bhi iske siwa maango
“I’ll bestow even more besides these, just ask what you want”

Nabi ko apni ummat bakshwane ka khayal aaya
Then the prophet thought of asking forgiveness for his followers(Muslims)

The last four lines give the account of the night of Meraj when Allah granted forgiveness for all the followers of Prophet Mohammed (pbuh).
